چکیده

There is a well-established link between world-class gold telluride mineral deposits and alkalic magmatic host rocks, often emplaced post-subduction in arc terranes. Fiji home to two such deposits, provides an ideal location study the relationship (shoshonitic) their geodynamic context, potential roles metal enrichment. A total of 93 new geochemical analyses rocks from across are presented, alongside detailed petrography mineralogy compilation literature data. Despite relatively similar syn- samples, there differences them, with latter displaying elevated concentrations Ba (<2137 ppm), Rb (<218 Sr (<2648 ppm) K2O (<10.18 wt%), depletions Nb Ta. Multi-element trends suggest exaggerations ‘typical’ patterns shoshonites. Geochemical data that whilst fluxing fluids sediment melts subducted slab may play role producing distinctive magmas, they likely insufficient drive strong trends. Instead, biotite or possibly phlogopite lithosphere suggested as being key ‘ingredient’. Earlier subduction can modify through addition hydrous phases, both by metasomatism lithospheric mantle, formation residual minerals during fractional crystallisation. Remelting these phases could liberate trace elements metals. Biotite particular facilitate some observed large ion lithophile (LILE) enrichments alkali-rich (potassic) nature magmas.

Petroleum Geology of Fiji

The Fiji Platform developed as an island arc in the Tertiary. Extensional and transpressional tectonics have deformed the fill of extensive sedimentary basins within the Platform. These basins commonly contain over 3 km of stratified deposits. Five deep petroleum-exploration wells were drilled between 1980 and 1982, but all were dry. There remain reasonable prospects, however, because none of t...

The Geology of the Fiji Islands.

Starting with 35 grams of ethyl aminoacetate we recovered practically one-half of the aminoacid ester in the form of its hydrochloride, and obtained 19 grams of the isothiocyanacetate. If this method of synthesis finds as wide an application as we anticipate, it will...

Solidification fronts and magmatic evolution

From (3. F. Becker's and L. V. Pirsson's early enunciations linking the dynamics of magma chambers to the rock records of sills and plutons to this day, two features stand at the centre of nearly every magmatic process: solidification fronts and phenocrysts. The structure and behaviour of the envisioned solidification front, however, has been mostly that akin to non-silicate, non-multiply-satur...
